Origin and development of the Act Forum Foundation and its administratively dependent institutions

The Act Forum Foundation was not established first, with other administratively dependent institutions following later; rather, the process began with the founding of various organizations tasked with developing activities across the sciences and humanities, with the Act Forum Foundation (FAF) being created only toward the end of this sequence. The following section outlines the history of FAF, AIC, and the conglomerate of institutions that are, respectively, administratively and functionally dependent upon them.

Typically, an organization carries out all the activities it schedules itself; however, in our case, the Ibero-American Academy of Sciences (AIC—established recently, in 2014) serves to coordinate activities that were already being conducted by other organizations prior to its inception. These existing organizations have not entirely ceased their functions; rather, they remain as sub-institutions (or entities subordinate to a parent institution), while the AIC brings them together and represents them as the primary institution for the scientific work they carry out—whether independently or in collaboration.

The history of these institutions traces back to 1979, when a team of researchers—primarily from the fields of science and the humanities—established several entities through a joint effort between Seville and Madrid (Spain). First, they created the publishing house *APublicaciones* (AP), followed by the International Center for Scientific Research (CIEIC)—which includes the Institute for Historical and Economic Studies (IEHE) as a subordinate body—as well as the International Center for Studies and Artistic and Literary Creation (CIECAyL). The first (CIEIC) was responsible for research in the sciences, while the second (CIECAyL) focused on the humanities. Later, the Center for Comparative Studies Research on Latin America (CiECAL) was established in Mexico City, concentrating on the Latin American region. In 2014, the Academy of Sciences of Latin America and Europe was founded, with dual headquarters in Madrid (Spain) and Mexico City (Mexico). In 2023, this was renamed to the more accurate and definitive title: the Ibero-American Academy of Sciences, with its central headquarters in Mexico City—a change made because many international institutions and databases struggle to grasp the concept of a shared central headquarters between two countries, a model that represents a form of intellectual and institutional cross-pollination.

Institutionally, all the sciences (social sciences, applied sciences, exact sciences, etc., as well as the humanities)—developed by the various sub-institutions mentioned above (CiECAL, CIECAyL, CIEC)—are grouped under and currently depend on the AIC (Ibero-American Academy of Sciences), which also serves as their official representative. In other words, the IEHE depends on the CIEIC, which, along with CiECAL, CIECAyL, and CIEC, is officially subordinate to the AIC. For this reason, we request the IDROR solely from the AIC, rather than from each of the other institutions subordinate to it.

Furthermore, all these institutions, including the AIC, are administratively dependent on the Act Forum Foundation.
